My roots have been in Clark County since the late 1940's. Though I've moved around a bit with my job, my family and I continue to come home to Gum Springs. We're blessed in this place.
As former mayor of Gum Springs, I worked to make our community better for our citizens. Many of our residents are retired, so it's also important to make sure they have the basic necessities they need for a comfortable life. I worked closely with our water superintendent to provide clean, affordable water for our residents. We have also secured grants that are helping us beautify our roadways and develop a new sewer system. Our city board is very active and works closely with neighboring communities within Clark County to meet common goals.
Gum Springs has maintained a small-town, neighborly feel and we enjoy the peace and quiet of a country life while being just minutes from Arkadelphia and Gurdon. Our residents work together and I think we do a good job of creating community pride. For example, Gum springs hosts an annual Homecoming picnic in August for current residents as well as friends who have moved away. We always have a large turn-out and enjoy trading stories and ideas.
After retiring from the Gurdon Plywood Plant, Jimmy Perry was elected mayor of Gum Springs. In this role, he dedicates his time and energy to serving his community’s citizens and bringing about improvements that will benefit all of Clark County.
