Miss Arkansas 2010 and Alumna

I chose to move to Arkadelphia after visiting Ouachita on a college tour.  Among others, they have a great advertising and public relations program and I know I can launch a great career after I graduate.

I think this university gives students a place to call home away from home.  My high school was actually larger than Ouachita, but my professors are so much more interactive because of the small size.  I know them and they know me by name; I have their e-mail addresses and we talk regularly.  Plus, this is a Christian-based school, so you are free to express yourself and your beliefs.  It's great, unlike any other place I have ever been.

After living in Clark County for three years, I have developed a wide variety of networks and gained many new insights.  There are tons of things to do here in Arkadelphia. You just have to learn where those things are, like the small coffee shop or tea room is that features local artists.  You start to make friends and get out and get to know what's going on.  I'm involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program where we go into the community and mentor a child once a week.

The fact that there are two universities here is amazing, especially in Arkansas.  And if you choose to spend a bulk of your time in Arkadelphia, there are definitely things to do.  We are a regional hub for many great places, including Hot Springs and Little Rock.  You can branch out while still being surrounded by the loving and nurturing atmosphere.

Alyse Eady is a senior mass communications major at Ouachita Baptist University.  Both a leader on and off campus, Alyse is a strong advocate for student involvement throughout the Clark County community
