Henderson State University

Since Henderson State University’s inception in 1890, the university has been proud to be part of the Arkadelphia community. From music concerts and business seminars to college preparatory programs and summer camps, Henderson has a long history of providing high-quality educational opportunities and services to the public.Image title

Henderson State University operates many facilities used by the public on a regular basis for entertainment, enrichment and practical purposes. Henderson, which offers the only university-level aviation program in Arkansas, handles Arkadelphia Municipal Airport’s fixed base operation under a contract with the city. Flight instruction, rentals, pilot supplies and fuel services are offered to the public.

Henderson is part of Arkadelphia’s plan to give our children every educational advantage. Children ages 3 through 4 ½ can apply to attend the university’s Davis-Baker Preschool. The program gives students a strong educational foundation to help them begin kindergarten with confidence.

Teachers can take advantage of Henderson’s certification and continuing education programs while local businesses can receive support through the Small Business and Technology Development Center, which provides training, research and consulting services to existing and potential business owners. The university also offers workforce training through the Community Education Center, a partnership between educational institutions and local businesses that helps ensure atrained workforce to enhance economic growth.

Henderson is the only higher education institution in Arkansas that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, an organization dedicated to the identification and support of high quality public liberal arts and sciences institutions. The university offers its 3500 students an education based on a comprehensive core ofcourses in the arts and sciences that provides the skills and knowledge that are valued in business and the community.

In 2014, Affordable Colleges Online ranked Henderson No. 2 in the country for offering affordable online master’s programs. In addition, the university’s education programs were recognized by the National Council on Teacher Quality. Henderson’s program in secondary-school social-science education was ranked fifth best in the country, and the elementary education program was ranked 40th in the United States.
